- Native Plants in the Urban Landscape
There is growing interest in using native plants in urban landscapes. This is for many reasons, especially in water conservation and maintenance costs. In this class, students will learn about landscape design, and using methods of substitution to determine the native plants that will best provide the services called for in the landscape design.
Bob Craft has over 25 years in the Horticulture industry, specializing in low maintenance park management using native plants.
- Solar Energy for Homes
- Calculating Carbon Credits
- Tree Plantation Design for Carbon Offset Planning
Land owners have a new tool in their land management toolbox. The tool is carbon mitigation banking. Land managers are able to include carbon capture as part of a wood lot management plan that includes harvesting cycles and calculation of carbon values. The carbon storage in the managed woodlot can be a source of revenue to the land owner by putting the carbon on the carbon exchange.
John Garbini is a member of the Chicago Climate Exchange, and is licensed to consult on developing land management plans for carbon. He also is able to buy and sell carbon credits on the exchange.
- Job Security for People with Disabilities
This class works with public agencies and businesses to develop strategies within a business to help employees with disabilities succeed in a job. Changes within a business can be traumatic to all employees, and the modifications and skill development for individuals with disabilities takes a team approach.
Bob Craft has conducted research with the Department of Human Services that addresses job security for individuals with disabilities, and will share outcomes of that work.
- Research Directed Learning Environments
This class is for educators and public land management professionals. The methods taught have been tested in high schools in Oregon over the past 15 years. The motivation of the methodology used is to reduce the costs in the classroom and in the public land management agency project budgets while enhancing the learning opportunities for youth. The program design is replicable and scalable, and can be used in any existing curriculum. The program is mostly for high school age students and adult volunteer development programs.
Bob Craft and Dr. Schussel are the developers of the Research Directed Learning Environments program along with many education professionals and field research biologists. They will be sharing the instructional duties.
- Classroom Enrichment Through Technology
Technologies have grown rapidly over the past 10 years, and many users replace many successful learning methodologies with uncertain technology tools. This class helps classroom teachers deal with the implementation of technology tools to enhance their existing programs, not replace them. There is no need to increase IT spending in an organization to get the value of technology through the software as a service methodologies and through internet resource management.
Bob Craft has worked for over 25 years bringing new tools into the classroom to assist students in their efforts to learn math and science. A firm believer in Differential Learning, he works to ensure that every student in the classroom finds a way to be motivated to learn.
